The drop of Major Andrew KYRLE POPE

Major Andrew Alex KYRLE POPE was the D.A.A and Q.M.G. 3^rd Para brigade.

His intended Dropping Zone was D.Z. ‘V’, Varaville.

He had to reach the building selected to be the Headquarters of 3^rd Para brigade at LE MESNIL.

But the pilot of the Dakota got lost and he dropped at the wrong place (10 miles away!)

Unfortunately for him, he dropped into a farm, Le Grand Colleville, which were German Barracks at that time.

He was shot and mortally wounded, Captain W.E. CHURCH, Medical Officer of 3^rd Para Brigade, treated Major Pope when he was dying of wounds.
